Some people are naturally self motivated to workout. I am not always one of them! There are times when I really look forward to running at the gym or lifting weights. But there are also times when I just want to put workout clothes on so I can lay in bed to binge watch 3 hours of The Office.
There are so many articles about how a workout partner can help you achieve your exercise goals, if you can find the right person. For me, I need someone who makes working out fun, who challenges me, and who doesn’t put me down if I can’t do something. I want some who encourages me, but also someone who understands when I’ve had enough. I’m glad I have a few people in my life who can be an exercise partner for me. So, what are three reasons you should also consider having a workout partner?
1: This person can make sure you exercise when you said you would, even if you don’t actually feel like it.
There are plenty of days when I REALLY need this. Sometimes, just getting off my bed is the hardest part. If know you have someone waiting for you, you’ll be much more likely to exercise.
2: You are more likely to try new things!
My stair climb post is a perfect example of this. I am not sure I would have gone there alone. And I am pretty sure Jacob might not have tried it if I hadn’t asked him. Not only did we get a good workout (my legs are SO sore!) but we had fun being together. Maybe you’ve been interested in an exercise but have been intimidated about going alone. If there is someone willing to go with you, not only will you try something new but you also may enjoy the experience a whole lot more! You and your partner can trade off picking new things!
3: Time flies when you’re having fun!
This one is common sense. I know that, but it is worth mentioning. If you are with someone you care about and enjoy being with, the time will pass much faster. Sometimes the challenge is actually staying focused on EXERCISE and not just having fun!
