For a long time, I said I was too busy to work out or go for a run. Let’s be honest. If you feel you are too busy to do something, you really just don’t want to do it. I will admit that there are days when I don’t feel like going to the gym. The difference now is that I choose not to skip exercise all together. I’ve been trying to do some form of movement everyday. It may be just 5 minutes of stretching, but it is something.
Lately, walking has been my something. There are a lot of people who don’t really think of it as serious exercise. Honestly? That’s not true. Walking will help tone your legs and make you stronger.
Although I do often go with my mom, I also like the peace of putting on some music and walking to clear my head.
I was surprised to learn so many benefits of walking. In addition to the cardio health benefits, did you know it helps with creativity and cognitive function? A Harvard Medical School Health report in 2016 suggested that several studies show that just twenty to thirty minutes of daily aerobic exercise can help you think better. Study participants performed better on tests and had a quicker and more accurate reaction times. Let me say the “performed better on tests” part again. I better walk all of December before finals week!
If you are not feeling up to a full on sweat at the gym, take a walk.
Walk to the park, walk to get a coffee, walk to clear your head.
Just WALK.
